Molly turned to Libby. “Her button just poofed glitter in my face.”

“Need a tissue?”

Molly ignored her and wiped the glitter off as best she could. Then she said, “We have to beat her.”

“Yep. That, too.” Libby pulled her sleeve down and dabbed at Molly’s cheek to get more of the glitter off, though she wasn’t very successful.

“She’s a girl who thinks she can get votes with glitter and buttons and poof,” Molly said between dabs. “But you’re the one who made flyers with information. We need to go in the opposite direction.”

Libby nodded in agreement. “Be different.”

Molly stepped away from Libby and paced the hall. “Not cute. Not glittery. Not poofy…opposite.”

Libby paced alongside her. “We’re going opposite!”

“That’s right!” Molly narrowed her eyes. “We’re going to go dark. Rude. NEGATIVE.”

Libby came to a halt. “Negative?!” She bit at her lip. Certainly she didn’t mind being different—being different was always cool (except in cases of shoe wear and such). But going negative? She didn’t want to regret winning because of how she won. Except here she was with only two days left before the debate, without pamphlets, posters, slogans…nothing. While Cindy Applegate had a whole campaign figured out and an entire team behind her.

Maybe Molly was her only hope.

With a sneaky smirk, Molly leaned in and said, “I know…let’s go werewolf on her.”

Libby dropped her shoulders. She really didn’t see any other choice but to follow Molly’s lead. So she answered, her voice weak, “Werewolf. Sounds great, Molly.”

From down the hall, Trevor watched Libby’s shoulders drop—he’d recognize that movement anywhere…the sure sign of disappointment. What was going on?

He quickly approached them and noticed that Molly’s face was strangely sparkly. “What happened to you?” he asked her. “Did you fall on top of an art project?”

“It was Cindy Applegate’s button.” Molly folded her arms and flicked her eyes back and forth between Libby and Trevor. “Look, if Libby’s going to win this, she’s going to have to go in the opposite direction of glittery.”

“That’s right,” Libby said to Trevor with a shaky smile. “Nothing poofy. Nothing cute. I’m sure I’ll come up with something dark and rude soon.” And then she dropped her shoulders again.
